From London to Abuja in 50 days: Buhari’s return By Reuben Abati

The cities of Daura -President Muhammadu Buhari’s home town, Kano - his political base, and Kaduna -where he has a home, and where the aircraft that brought him from London landed early Friday, March 10, as well as other parts of the North saw the people trooping out to jubilate and thank God for his safe return. I noticed that there was no such jubilation in the entire South West, the East, the Middle Belt and the South South. This is understandable.

Father of teenager who hanged herself to escape online bullying shares photos of her last moment

Julia Debyshire died in October 2015 at the age of 16. The teenager had hanged herself at her home in Warrington, Cheshire, but was found by her father, Adrian Derbyshire, 42, who rushed her to the hospital where she was placed on life support for five days, before her father was forced to make the tough decision to switch off the life support when she remained unresponsive.
Just before Adrian turned off the life support, he took a photo of his daughter on her hospital bed, but he never shared them until recently, on the day when his daughter would have been celebrating her 18th birthday.

Adrian who is a  two-time Paralympic gold medal winner became an advocate against online bullying and set up an anti-online bullying campaign in memory of Julia. He revealed that he had not viewed the sad photo of his daughter ever since he took it until he had to upload it on her 18th birthday to highlight the consequences of online bullying. He said that revealing the photos was a hard choice but he had to make it.
"Releasing these photos was one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life. I took the photos in the minutes before Julia's death and buried them on my phone until now because I didn't want to look at them and I still don't. But I knew that I was going to them, obviously to help raise awareness, because I think that the cause is too vital to not use them. Instead of taking her out for champagne to celebrate her 18th birthday, I was placing flowers on her grave," he said.
'
Adrian had tried to help his daughter when he first noticed she was suffering due to online bullying.
He moved her back to Warrington, UK, where she was born before she moved to the US at age 4. he also got her into his Inspire Belief Succeed campaign that works with children to help them prosper through sport. He had no idea that his daughter was still being abused online and she was already using a false identity to visit online groups that promote self-harm and suicide.

Already? INEC announces dates for the 2019 Presidential, Governorship, National and State Assembly elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, February 16th, 2019 for the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections. While the Governorship/State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections will hold on Saturday 2nd March 2019.Below is a statement issued today and signed by Prince Solomon Soyebi National Commissioner (In charge of South West)

                             Gentlemen of the Press,
You are all welcome to yet another briefing, which is in fulfillment of our pledge to regularly brief the public on the Commission’s activities.
1. Our democracy is maturing and the Commission believes that there should be certainty with regard to the timetable for elections. For instance, in the United States, general elections always hold on the second Tuesday of November in the election year. In Ghana, it’s the 7th of December of the election year, while in other places like Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Costa Rica and Switzerland, the dates are also known in advance.
In Nigeria, the constitution provides for elections to hold not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days to the end of the incumbent’s tenure. In order to ensure certainty in our dates for elections, and to allow for proper planning by the Commission, political parties, security agencies, candidates and all stakeholders, the Commission has decided to fix the date for the National Elections for the third Saturday in February of the election year, followed by State elections two weeks later. To that extent, the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, 16th February 2019, while the Governorship/State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections will hold on Saturday 2nd March 2019.

2.    The Commission has also received a Report from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Federation, informing us that 23 Electoral Officers indicted over the investigation into the 10th December Rivers Re-run elections have been charged to court. The Commission has repeatedly said that it will cooperate with security agencies for the prosecution of any of our staff found to have violated the integrity of the electoral process. Accordingly, at our meeting today, the Commission decided to apply the provisions of the INEC Terms and Conditions of Service to all those charged to court, since it constitutes gross misconduct. The penalty for this is interdiction. All the 23 Electoral Officers will be placed on half salary and will not report for duty pending the determination of their respective cases by the court.
3.    Ladies and gentlemen, you will recall that last week, we informed you that a decision would be taken this week on the recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee on staff members indicted by the EFCC Report for misconduct during the 2015 General Elections. However, in view of the fact that some of the staff are also among those being prosecuted by the DPP, the Commission has decided to defer its decision on the EFCC Report to enable us reconcile the EFCC/DPP reports.
4.    And as part of our routine consultations with our stakeholders,  the Commission has decided to hold the next regular quarterly meetings with stakeholders as follows:
A.   Tuesday 14th March –Meeting with Political Parties
B.   Wednesday 15th March – Meeting with Civil Society Organizations
C.    Friday 17th March – Meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
D.   Monday March 21 – Meeting with Media organizations. Our invitations have been sent to the respective stakeholders
5.    We wish to assure all Nigerians that the Commission will remain fully committed to the sanctity of the electoral process and will never protect any of its staff, no matter highly placed, found to have violated the provisions of the Electoral Act and our guidelines.

Oh dear! The hackers got Nicki Minaj too, releases her nude pics

It was only a matter of time before they got the queen of semi-nudity. Yesterday iCloud hackers released topless photos of Nicki Minaj, British model Cara Delevingne and Hollywood actress Anna Kendrick...amongst others.

The photos, which purport to be Nicki Minaj topless, doesn't show her face, but in one particular pic there's 'liquid' on the breast of the woman who has the exact same tattoo on her arm that Nicki has. The pics are floating online...but of course I can't post them here without censoring them. If you want to see uncensored pics, try Google. The pic I have after the cut, I cropped her boobs out but you will still see the 'liquid' on the boobs. Continue to see it but please don't open in a public place...:-)
